Cristian Parra is a Senior Economist with over 20 years of experience working across the extractive industries, delivering strategic insights on economic, financial, and social impact assessments. Throughout his career, Cristian has gained extensive expertise in conducting project evaluations, analysing corporate affairs strategies, and managing stakeholder engagement processes in diverse settings. His work has spanned both developed and developing countries, allowing him to bring a unique, global perspective to the challenges faced by industries, governments, and communities alike.


Throughout his career, Cristian has held leadership positions at several prestigious organizations such as BHP, Citibank, Barrick Gold, and the Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining at the University of Queensland. Currently, Cristian is working as ESG Economist and Inudstry advisor for Xenith Consulting in Australia.


Cristian has played a leading role in over 50 mining regions across more than 25 countries, primarily in Latin America, Asia-Pacific, and Africa. His extensive international experience encompasses a broad range of projects, from small-scale community-based initiatives to large multinational corporate ventures. He has collaborated with diverse stakeholders, including mining companies, development organizations such as The World Bank and UNDP, NGOs, governments, and local communities.


Cristian’s work covers a range of specialized areas, including economic modelling, financial risk analysis, ESG performance evaluation, and policy analysis. He has developed expertise in applying traditional economic tools such as financial and input-output models, while also utilizing contemporary approaches like ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) frameworks and stakeholder mapping.


Cristian has a Master’s in Development Economics from the University of Queensland, Australia, and an MBA jointly awarded by the University of Chile and ESADE Business School, Spain.
